At the Edge

Manhattan is an island of skyscrapers, wind tunnels, and traffic congestion. But things open up a half-mile east or west along the waterfront — the air is fresh, the breeze is cool, the only sounds are of lapping water and sunny laughter. Getting down to the water isn’t always the easiest, but those who endeavor say the trek is worth it. Produced by Sarah Portlock.
